About this test

Mineralocorticoid produced by the adrenal zona glomerulosa. Regulates sodium retention and potassium excretion. Tested alongside plasma renin to calculate ARR.

Clinical Interpretation

Low / Decreased
Low — hypoaldosteronism, Addison's disease, hyperkalaemia.
High / Increased
Elevated — primary hyperaldosteronism (Conn's syndrome), secondary hyperaldosteronism (heart failure, cirrhosis, renal artery stenosis).
