Clinical Interpretation

Low / Decreased
Anaemia — iron deficiency, B12/folate deficiency, chronic disease, haemolysis, bone marrow failure, blood loss.
High / Increased
Polycythaemia — primary (PV), secondary (high altitude, COPD, right-to-left shunt), dehydration.
