About this test

Liver-derived acute-phase protein with a half-life of ~19h. Rises within 6h of an acute stimulus and falls rapidly when it resolves. Used to detect and monitor infection, inflammation, and tissue injury.

Clinical Interpretation

High / Increased
Infection (bacterial > viral), systemic inflammation (RA, IBD, vasculitis), tissue injury (MI, surgery, trauma), malignancy. Minimal rise in SLE (use ESR) and viral infections.
