Immature erythroid precursors normally absent from peripheral blood. Their presence indicates severe marrow stress or haemolysis.

Clinical Interpretation

High / Increased
Severe haemolytic anaemia, thalassaemia major, myelofibrosis, bone marrow infiltration, hypoxia, acute sepsis.
