About this test

Vitamin K-dependent natural anticoagulant. Activated by thrombin-thrombomodulin complex to inactivate FVa and FVIIIa. Deficiency causes inherited thrombophilia. Must not be tested on warfarin.

Reduced — inherited Protein C deficiency (thrombophilia), liver disease, warfarin (vitamin K antagonism), DIC, sepsis.
