About this test

Time for plasma to clot after addition of thrombin directly. Sensitive to fibrinogen deficiency/dysfunction and heparin contamination. Used in bleeding disorder work-up.

Clinical Interpretation

Low / Decreased
Short TT — not routinely interpreted.
High / Increased
Prolonged TT — fibrinogen deficiency or dysfibrinogenaemia, DIC (fibrinogen consumed), direct thrombin inhibitors (dabigatran), heparin contamination (check reptilase time).
