Highly specific for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Titres correlate with disease activity and can predict lupus nephritis flares.

Clinical Interpretation

Low / Decreased
Negative (with positive ANA) — consider other connective tissue disease.
High / Increased
Elevated — active SLE, especially lupus nephritis. Can be used to guide immunosuppressive therapy.
