About this test

Digestive enzyme from pancreatic acinar cells and salivary glands. Rises within hours of acute pancreatitis but is not specific (salivary isoenzyme also elevated in parotitis).

All ≥ 18 yrs 28 – 100 Adult; >3× ULN is diagnostic threshold for acute pancreatitis (NICE)

Clinical Interpretation

High / Increased
Acute pancreatitis, salivary gland pathology (parotitis), perforated peptic ulcer, ischaemic bowel, renal failure (reduced clearance), macroamylasaemia.
