Inactive cleavage fragment of proBNP released from ventricular cardiomyocytes in response to pressure overload or volume overload. Used to diagnose and monitor heart failure.

Clinical Interpretation

Low / Decreased
Low — rules out heart failure (if <125 ng/L age-specific).
High / Increased
Elevated — heart failure (preserved or reduced EF), acute coronary syndrome, PE, CKD, AF.
