About this test

Cofactor in amino acid metabolism, haem synthesis, and neurotransmitter synthesis. Deficiency causes sideroblastic anaemia, peripheral neuropathy, and glossitis.

Clinical Interpretation

Low / Decreased
Deficiency — malnutrition, alcohol, isoniazid therapy (B6 antagonist), CKD.
High / Increased
Toxicity (>500 nmol/L sustained) — sensory peripheral neuropathy from excess supplementation.
