About this test

Autoantibody against thyroid peroxidase. Present in Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves' disease. High titres indicate increased risk of progression to hypothyroidism.

Clinical Interpretation

Low / Decreased
Negative — autoimmune thyroid disease less likely.
High / Increased
Positive — Hashimoto's thyroiditis (most common autoimmune thyroid disease), Graves' disease, postpartum thyroiditis. Found in ~10% of healthy women.
