Treponemal-specific test for Treponema pallidum antibodies. Remains positive lifelong after treated infection. Used alongside non-treponemal tests (VDRL/RPR) to monitor treatment.

Clinical Interpretation

Low / Decreased
Negative — syphilis not detected (repeat if high suspicion and early infection).
High / Increased
Positive — past or current syphilis. Quantitative non-treponemal test (VDRL/RPR) required to assess activity and treatment response.
