About this test

Highly specific for primary biliary cholangitis (PBC; formerly PBC). Positive in ~95% of PBC patients. The M2 subtype targets pyruvate dehydrogenase complex.

Clinical Interpretation

Low / Decreased
Negative AMA does not exclude PBC (AMA-negative PBC exists).
High / Increased
PBC — the combination of AMA positivity, cholestatic LFTs, and supportive liver histology is diagnostic.
